Temperature
Temperature is at the core of Tempura. By helping fill the subsurface temperature data gap, climate change's impact on marine life can be monitored better.
GPS-location
The location for where the data was collected is a must to make the data useful. Tempura gives accurate GPS-location to provide this.
Time and date
Similar to location, time is a necessity. The time of the year and time of the day greatly impacts water temperature. Tempura presents accurate time with the help of GPS.
But first things first! The data has to be FAIR!
FAIR we say, but what does that mean?
Findable
The data needs to be findable for others and with relevant metadata.
Accesible
After finding the dataset, there needs to be a procedure for how to access the data.
Interoperable
Having interoperable data means data that uses standard formats, which makes it easy for both humans and computers to work with.
Reusable
To make the data reusable there needs to be sufficient metadata and context to the data.

Well sounds good. Now, how do we work towards this?
Findable
Currently the data is only available here on our website, not in a research data catalogue or similar. That would have wanted made the data more findable. But hey... at least you are reading this!
Accesible
The data is available to everyone after it has been processed by us. No personal information is collected or stored apart from GPS-location. However, our goal is that only data collected in the ocean or lakes will become public.
Interoperable
The file format of the data is stored in CSV-format, which can easily be converted to other file formats. Think of it like a table of data but with commas as separator for the columns. The temperature is in Celsius, the position is in (latitude, longitude) and the date and time follows the standard ISO 8601 with time zone UTC.
Reusable
The GPS-module provides time and position of the data giving the data user enough information to make the data valuable. The remaining context is given by this website, along with a short description by the data collector.
