TEMPURA:

OCEAN SENSOR  FOR ANGLERS

THE OCEAN NEEDS YOUR HELP

In 2015, world leaders came to an agreement to set forth 17 global goals. These goals were established to guide global initiatives towards a better future. Two of these goals have a special place in our hearts, namely 14: Life Below Water and 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. With Tempura we intend to assist the ocean and costal communities by providing them with invaluable data, filling the huge data gap of the ocean.

The sport of recreational fishing is going through change. While new technology such as sonars and apps bring seemingly endless possibilities, global warming poses a grave threat to not only the sport but to ocean life itself. Without thriving marine ecosystems, recreational fishing will cease to exist.

In regards to the looming threat of global warming we’ve noticed a lack of possibilities for anglers to combat the threat themselves - despite the inherent incentive among anglers to help preserve the very waters that bring them so much joy. We wish to give them the opportunity to be part of the solution.

Our purpose is to combine these three forces: global warming, technology and environmentally aware anglers. The vision is that the anglers will, with the help of new technology, help combat global warming and promote a twin transition of the industry.

PLUNGE INTO
CITIZEN SCIENCE

Citizen science refers to the involvement of the public in scientific research, and it has the potential to transform our understanding of the world around us.

Our sensor, Tempura is a powerful yet simple tool that allows ordinary fishermen to become citizen scientists by passively collecting invaluable data whilst enjoying a fishing trip. The compact sensor can easily be attached to your fishing boat and placed in the water to measure temperature at different depths. Tempura will provide you with real-time, sub-surface temperature readings allowing you to better find fishing waters with the optimal temperature conditions for any said fish.
